9/29/2021 5 Comments Just the beginningWhen first assigned this project, we initially had some struggles and were unsure of what we wanted to do. We had several ideas such as going on different diets or even trying to teach one another a new sport. But, after much discussion, we came to the conclusion that we wanted our "something" to have an impact. Whether this be on ourselves, the community, or each other. That brought us to our current plan, to go out and help the less fortunate by supplying them with different goods (food, hygienic products, clothes, etc).
As of right now, we're continuing to work on the logistics of things and get the little details together. We still have yet to decide where we're going to go out and volunteer, how we want to document our interactions, budget for how much we want to spend, how much time we'll spend at the shelters/on the streets, etc. Our website is also still a work in progress as we figure out how we want to format it and what all it should entail. With all that being said, how do we feel about this project? Well, we are so excited. We knew from the start that we wanted to make an impact with this project and we found exactly what we wanted to do. As a group, we agreed that this would be great to help break the stigma around homeless people/mental health. We were motivated by the stories we've heard or experiences we've had with struggling or less fortunate people. Our hope is that these acts of kindness and gifts go a long way in helping make their day and it's something they won't forget. Today was a slow day in terms of progression of our project. We struggled on where to start on such a big task, but we were able to knock out some of our designing for our website and get a clearer picture of what the twelve weeks will look like. This time was also used to work on blog posts, both commenting and creating our own. Hopefully, in weeks to come, this time devoted to Genius Hour will come easier to us and we're able to continue productivity. There are many logistics to be worked out and we understand this may be a lot of work. It may be challenging to see the conditions some live in or the stories they tell. But, nevertheless, we are excited for this journey! We hope to make great connections along the way. Follow along for more!
